RAM AIR INDUCTION
The ability to gain a mild supercharging effect by directing air from the front of a motorcycle through ducting that attaches to the air box or air chamber, to the carburetors.

REDLINE
The maximum allowable speed of an engine-something you will hit regularly after power boosting your motorcycle.

REGULATOR, BYPASS-TYPE PRESSURE
A bypasstype (also called "retum-type") pressure regulator operates to maintain a controlled pressure within a continuously flowing fluid stream by sending excess fluid back to its source (for example, the fuel tank). As applied to fuel pressure regulators, this type of pressure control tends to keep a fresh supply of cool fuel flowing to the carburetors or fuel injectors, with excess fuel being routed back through a petcock and standpipe at the bottom of the fuel tank. With this type of regulator, fuel flows from the fuel pump in excess of demand; the excess is simply returned to its source.

REGULATOR, DEADHEAD-TYPE PRESSURE
A deadhead-type pressure regulator operates to maintain a controlled pressure within a fluid stream by restricting flow between the source and its destination. As applied to fuel pressure regulators, this type of pressure control tends to heat the fuel flowing to the carburetors or fuel injectors, since the pressure drop across the regulator expends some energy. With this type of regulator, the fuel flowing from the fuel pump exactly equals flow to the carburetors or fuel injectors; the pressure at the pump is reduced to that required at the destination through the inline restriction of the regulator.

RESEARCH METHOD
One of the methods used to detennine the octane rating of gasoline.

ROLLER BEARINGS
Bearings made of rolling cylinders; lubricated by low pressure oil.

ROTARY COMPRESSOR
A supercharger that contains rotors, as in a Roots design.
